I have been asked for the settings I use with Procreate to draw my freehand details. This movie shows you the tools I use, the settings I use, and how i use the tools.
I'm a big fan of Procreate to draw details, sketch over photos, and explore design options.

Speed up your detailing in Vectorworks
https://jonathanpickup.bio
I use the contextual menu to speed up my drawing. In this movie, i show you how to use the Select Connected Object command and the Compose command to make your drawing more consistent, then I show you how fast it could be it you had better access to these commands join the membership: https://archoncad.com/Monday, June 03, 2024
What is Document Content Analysis?

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwvftfxlvkvJb6BBr2eqRpw/join What is Document Content Analysis (DCA)? It is looking at the content of the drawings that you think will be needed to describe the project. DCA allows you to make an educated guess about the number of plans, sections, elevations, and details will be needed to complete the project. In major projects this is an essential step, for domestic projects, maybe not. it allows you to calculate the number of drawings needed, the time required to create the drawings. https://jonathanpickup.bioWednesday, November 29, 2023
Visibility Tool to Control Views
The visibility tool is used to quickly control visibility of objects. I use it mainly with classes to quickly turn off classes to get the drawing that I want. Unless movie you will see me use the visibility tool to turn off all the classes needed to create a specific drawing. The visibility tool works in design layers and in Viewports

Creating Section Drawings
Sections in Vectorworks can be used to show the construction of the project. Sections can be live, meaning that they update easily when you change the model. For example, if you are designing a house, as you make changes to the plan, the sections will update when you click on the Update button.
To create the section, you need the model of the project.

Creating a Site Plan in Vectorworks 2023
This movie is an update of an old movie, it shows how to create a boundary line, how to add the building to a site plan, how to create the site plan drawings, and how to calculate the site coverage (house /site ratio).

Bamboo Spark
I often use the Bamboo Spark to take notes in meeting and when I am training others. the great thing about it is that you write on regular paper and the Spark then sends the electric version of your notes to your device. The Bamboo Spark software works on your iPad or android device.
It is a great utility for recording your notes and you can use it with Bamboo Paper to colour your notes and sketches.

Drawing Basics - 3rd Angle Projection
Third angle projection is a common way of presenting information to others. In simple terms, a third angle projection has a plan at the top left of the page, directly below this the front elevation based on the plan above, and to the right of the front elevation a side view of the object.
In engineering drawings this is often the only drawing required by a manufacturer. For landscape and architectural projects this may not be the most suitable way to present your work. For example, your plan may be so large that you can only fit that plan on a page.

Drawing Basics - Line Weights on Elevations
In a previous post we talked about how important it was to have line weights to to help communicate information on your drawings. This also applies to your elevations. When I was taught to draw I was taught to use different line weights on elevations to help people to read the elevations. What this means is that there should be a hierarchy of line weights that help people understand what parts of the project are projecting forward and what parts are in the background.

Drawing Basics - Line Weights
Line weights are extremely important. A drawing that has all of its lines with the same weight (same line thickness) is difficult to read. It's a very common practice to use different line weights to represent different parts of your drawing. To start with, all the background information should have a thin line, and objects that require emphasis should have a thicker line.

Drawing and Detailing - 1
We need to draw details to communicate to others how the project is built, how the materials join, how they are fixed together, and how we keep the water out. Water may not seem much of a problem, but if you have lived in a country where they have had leaky buildings, you will know that water is a big issue. Water can cause health and safety issues and it can also cause buildings to fail through rot, corrosion, and through ice. Each wednesday we will be looking at draw ing and detailing topics. We will be covering detailing principles, drawing concepts, where you need details, etc.

Vectorworks Tip 392 - Copy Linked Viewports
After you have created your linked viewports with the detail callout all with the detail reference, you can then copy and paste these objects onto other sections or elevations, and the links to the viewport will remain. This allows you to link several detail references or detail callouts to the same viewport, and it's really quick to do.

Vectorworks Tip 391 - Measuring Existing Buildings
Measuring existing buildings there are several ways that you can use to measure an existing building. You can use an old-fashioned tape measure, laser measuring device, laser devices that are connected to your iPad, plus a range of apps that you can use on your tablet or phone. Since there are so many different ways of measuring existing buildings, I would like you to leave your comments about which method you use.
We will be covering this topic in March 2016, book now!

Vectorworks Tip 382 - How to Create a Linked Viewport With a Detail Reference

Vectorworks Tip 377 - Linked Viewports - Concept
The concept is that you can create a reference object in your plans, sections, or elevations, and link this object to a viewport (maybe a detail) on a different sheet layer. When you update the number of the detail or move the detail from one sheet to another the drawing reference will update in the original plan, elevation, or section. You can link multiple reference objects to one viewport. That way, when you move or renumber the detail, all of your drawing references will update.
