Calculating Elevations Along A Grade Object #jonathanpickup #vectorworks

Jonathan explores methods for calculating elevations along a grade object in Vectorworks, focusing on both mathematical approaches and using a 3D site model. Despite users preferring a 2D solution, Jonathan demonstrates how to utilize the stake object for precision and elevation determination along a grade in 2D. While changes to the grade object don't update automatically, this technique provides essential calculations for users needing data in a 2D format. Join in to discover practical insights and tips on managing grade objects within Vectorworks effectively.

Learn how to create effective context for site models in Vectorworks.

In this insightful episode, Jonathan Pickup takes listeners through the precise steps of incorporating context into a site model using Vectorworks software. This practical guide is a treasure trove for architects, designers, and CAD enthusiasts aiming to enhance their projects with realistic environmental factors.

Jonathan begins by illustrating the utility of classes in Vectorworks to manage visibility and organize project components effectively, using the example of creating a 'site scan' class. This technique helps isolate elements within a project, providing a cleaner workspace for further design. He proceeds to the powerful 'Select Similar' tool, demonstrating its efficacy in selecting and manipulating design elements across different classes. Following the introduction of the classes, Jonathan provides an in-depth walkthrough on creating context using the massing model tool within Vectorworks. Not only does he show how to place and modify building representations within a site model, but he also addresses nuances like shadow settings and roof profiles to add realism.

Importing and Scaling Survey Data for Site Modeling in Vectorworks 2024

Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwvftfxlvkvJb6BBr2eqRpw/join Learn how to import and scale a survey in Vectorworks. In this episode, Jonathan demonstrates the process of starting with a blank document and importing a survey file and controlling the settings for the survey. He also shares a time-saving tip for saving import settings. By scaling the imported survey, Jonathan ensures that all elements, including text and symbols, are correctly sized. This informative episode is perfect for Vectorworks users looking to efficiently import and work with survey data.

How to add a retaining wall to the Existing Site Model

I often use this track to create retaining walls in the existing site model. It uses a 3-D polygon inside the source data, which you can add later if the surveyor hasn't given it to you.

Importing Vectorworks 2023 Fence Styles

In this movie I'm trying to import my Fence Styles from Vectorworks 2023 into Vectorworks 2024. While I was making this movie, I found out how to make different infil types, that will be another movie.

Vectorworks - Designing Stairs To Fit Your Site

Jonathan Pickup shares a valuable technique for accurately cutting steps in hardscape design using Vectorworks software. Instead of manually adjusting the steps and hoping for the best, he demonstrates how to use the Convert Copy to lines command to calculate where the steps penetrate the site model. By drawing lines on top of these penetration points and using the offset parallel mode of the reshape tool, Jonathan shows how to precisely move the steps back to align with the site model. This technique ensures that the hardscapes and site model are perfectly matched, resulting in a seamless design.

Vectorworks Tip 424 - Where To Put Site Modifiers

Many uses believe that the only place that you should store site modifiers is on the same layer as the site model. While this works very well, it is not the only place that you can locate your site modifiers. The site model settings dialog box allows you to choose where site modifiers can be located. They can be on the same layer as the site model, on any layer, on visible layers, or you can select which layers you want to put your site modifiers on.

Vectorworks Tip 420 - What Is A Site Modifier?

In simple terms a site modifier is a special object that will allow Vectorworks to change (or modify) a site model. Not every object can be a site modifier, but there are a large number of objects that can be. A site modifier needs a three-dimensional object to tell Vectorworks where to make the changes to the site model (sometimes called a pad), and it also requires an object to limit the extent of the change (called a grade limits).

Vectorworks Tip 396 - Google Earth Pro

I found out recently that Google Earth Pro is available for free. It has many features that make it the pro version, but so far I do not know what the all are. One feature I do like in the Pro version is the ability to draw a path and then see the elevation of the path. I recently used this for placing massing models for adjacent sites. I did not have any hard data on the elevations of the adjoining sites, but by drawing a path, and Showing the Elevation Profile, I was able to get the information I needed.

Vectorworks Tip 349 - Site model - Site Modifiers (Pads and Grade Limits)

Notes - Page 14
Sometimes there is confusion over the what a pad object is and what a grade limits object is in sitre modeling. The pad changes the site model (it is the 3D object) and the grade limit contriols how much of the site is affected by the pad.

Vectorworks Tip 338 - Site Model Settings - Graphic Attributes

In Vectorworks 2016 there is now a faster way to set the graphic attributes on your site models so that it uses the class settings for the line weights, colours, and line styles of the class. This will allow you to usual classes to change the graphic style of your site models after you have created them.

Vectorworks Tip 330 – Adjust the Site Model Settings to Make Snapping Easier

Vectorworks-Tip-330
If you are going to use the Snap to Contour, you might want to adjust the Site Model Settings to give you the correct contour to snap to. The first way to adjust the setings is to change the coutour interval to give you more contours to snap to.

Vectorworks Tip 326 – Snap to Contour

Vectorworks-Tip-326
This is a great addition to the Site Modifier tool. When you choose this mode, Vectorworks reads the elevation of the countour that you are snapping to and sets the elevation of the site modifier to this elevation. This saves so much time when placing site modifiers. No more guessing or placing 3D loci to get the correct elevation.

Vectorworks Tip #264 - Site Modeling - Site Modifiers - 3D Ploygon http://learn.archoncad.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/image112-300x144.png

A 3D Polygon can be a site modifier if you assign it to the correct class. The important thing is the class, if you do not assign it to the class, it will not work as a Site Modifier.

Vectorworks Tip #232 - Site Modelling - Site Modifiers - Pads.

These are your first type of site modifier. They are usually flat, but you can add a slope to the pad if you want. Use pads to create flat or sloping areas on a site model. Pads can be square, rectangular, round, polygonal, any shape you want...

Vectorworks Tip #228 - Site Modeling - Site Modifiers  Concept

Site Modifiers are used to modify the site model. they are a few tools that can create a site modifier. you generally need two parts to the site modifier, the modifier itself and an object to limit the extent of the modification.
