Vectorworks Tip 367 - Print to PDF

Print to PDF there is a huge difference between printing to a PDF on a Macintosh or on a Windows machine. Printing the PDF is built into a Macintosh before a Windows machine you will need something additional like PDF995 (software that will allow you to print to a PDF file). If you have a fundamentals version of Vectorworks printing to a PDF as a way of creating a single PDF file from each page. You will need to have additional software to combine these individual PDFs into a single document.

Vectorworks Tip 362 - Publishing to PDF

This facility is only available if you have a Designer Series version of Vectorworks. It allows you to select which sheet layers or save views you want to print, and then it prints them to a single PDF file.

Vectorworks Tip 354 - Print to PDF

On a Macitosh computer you CAN use File > Print > Save as PDF. This is a built in utility in the macintosh OS that basically just takes an image of what you’re printing and slaps it into a PDF. No layers, no classes, no vector info. If you don’t need any of that, it will make a smaller flat PDF and can be useful

Vectorworks Tip #165 - Publish Command – Export to Image

The Publish… command is from the File menu. The Publish dialog box allows you to choose any of the sheet layers or saved views from your file and print to a PDF file in the order you require. You select the required sheet and saved views, click on the top arrow where you can reorder the views. Click on the Publish button to create the PDF file.

Help! I can’t Print to PDF!

One of my clients just phoned up in a panic. They were trying to print a job to PDF. All the drawings except for one printed without the text boxes. I thought it might be a font problem, so I suggested a change to Arial (always a fallback font).

“had a few veiwports and referenced viewports on the page - all that use Avante Garde. Then 2 schedules and 1 worksheet - also all used avante garde. No text at all would actually appear in the PDF - even fonts that were not avante garde. Once I deleted the suspect schedule viewport every other bit of text began to appear - then I changed the font to Arial made a new viewport and it worked fine.”
